Oahu
Of all the Hawaiian Islands strung out over 1500 miles of the Pacific Ocean the aptly named Oahu, or æGathering PlaceÆ, is the busiest with its capital, Honolulu, serving as the major gateway to AmericaÆs 50th State. Waikiki Beach figures high on the list of the worldÆs best beaches though a hire car is advised to explore the lush sugar, banana and pineapple plantations and the unspoilt northern surfing beaches pounded by the Pacific rollers. Diamond head is an extinct volcano and provides not only the islandÆs most renowned landmark but a suitable vantage point to appreciate the volcanic origins. Sightseeing includes Sea Life Park, Iolani Palace, a tour of Pearl Harbour and the Polynesian Cultural Centre.
